Carole - by Luke Roper

My surrogate mother Carole! 13 and a half years since we first met in the NIC box office, when I had introduced me as another new rink assistant, from that day you were always the one I could come to for a support cheering up or a chat. So many happy, funny moments to talk about, from getting called to the box office on a weekly basis for a first aid, never in doubt it would be for the accident-prone Carole. I think in the end we had your own first aid log/kit for you! I used to love our chats and laughs on the skating party days helping each other set up displays etc (most of the time in fancy dress) we always laughed a little too loudly and got hushed by the other staff (will still carried on). When I had the chance to progress you were always the one at work pushing me to trust in myself and go for it and it paid off!  Then every Sunday morning we had an excuse for a coffee and a moan about the customer and Muppets on shift, this was done over the counting of the safes in the back room. I think at one point people thought you had a toy boy, and I had a cougar! We did take 3 times longer. You were amazing at everything you did, and the only one to have Gary Moran in the palm of their hand. I cannot thank you enough for everything you have done for me and my family over the Good, Bad and the Ugly times! I better wrap this up as Mick said only 100 words which I am already over (I will bribe him with a light ale!) Over the years we have always held each other up, and not just through having too much alcohol, you are the strongest, kindest, and most caring person I know, the bond me you and Alan have means the world to me! As you named us the Crazy Meds Gang! Keep that beautiful smile on your face Carole because it lights up the world! You are not just a friend you are family – my surrogate mum! I love you babe! XX
